Politics with Paul Podcast #13 - Election 2024 Preview Part 3 - Competitive US Senate Races
There are 9 or so seats up for election in the US Senate in 2024 that are expected to be competitive, including some states that are presidential battlegrounds. Today's episode of PwP covers the races in that chamber are expected to be the tightest, including one contest that has a slight chance of being an upset, and some of the key factors to look at in each. There is no random question today. That will be saved for the end of this string of episodes.
Key Points
- The most competitive races in the US Senate in 2024 are Arizona, Michigan, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. However, you will also want to keep an eye out on Maryland for a slight chance at an upset.
- Some of the factors examined when analyzing these races' competitiveness include voter registration statistics on party (if available in that state), campaign spending, and whether the presidential race in that state is also expected to be competitive.
- In several of these races, the Democratic candidates' campaign committees have raised and spent significantly more money than their Republican opponents, but the Republicans are still keeping things close. This highlights that sheer amount of money in a campaign isn't everything. You must spend it wisely, too.
